I made these cute mittens for my 15 month old daughter to keep her hands cozy during the winter months.

H hook
Cream Red heart yarn
Yarn needle
sl st=slip stitch
sc=single crochet
dc=double crochet
2sctog=2 single crochet together decrease
2hdctog=2 half double crochet together decrease
I measured my 15 month old wrists, they were about 4.25 inches around. You can take the cuff before you sew it together and see if will fit, but you want it a little loose so you can fit it over the child’s wrist.

Make 2 Mittens, H hook

Row 1: CUFF: chain 5, sc in the 2nd chain from the hook and each sc across, turn -4 sc

Rows 2-20: sc in each back loop across, turn *Repeat for 20 rounds, -4sc (should measure around 5 inches long, before you sew it together)

Rnd 21: fold the rows of 20 in half and sc across the edges to close it to make a cuff

Rnd 22: sc in each sc around, sl st -20sc

Rnd 23: hdc in each sc around, work in continual rounds now, without a slip stitch, use a marker to keep track of your rounds.

Rnd 24: hdc in each sc around

Rnd 25:  hdc in the next hdc, 2hdc in the next hdc, *Repeat around

Rnd 26: THUMB: hdc in the next 6 hdc, ch 2, Skip the next 7 hdc, hdc th next hdc, and in each hdc around

Rnd 27: hdc in the next three hdc, 2hdctog decrease, 2hdc in the ch 2 space, hdc in the next hdc, *2hdctog decrease, hdc the next three hdc, *Repeat around

Rnd 28: hdc in each sc around

Rnd 29:  hdc in each sc around

Rnd 30: *hdc in next 2 hdc, 2hdctog decrease, *Repeat around

Rnd 31: hdc in each sc around

Rnd 32: 2hdctog decrease, work this decrease 9 times, Close the top of the mitten with a few slip stitches, Fasten off and weave in the ends.

    Thank you forthis pattern, I just made my first pair of mittens!!!! You made it easy with your simple but precise instructions, it’s also the first time I have been able to follow a pattern!!
    Thanks again =D

    As a suggestion, I always crochet a chain to attach to each mitten and then thread it through the jacket sleeves, this helps prevents a lost mitten. I do this even with store bought gloves or mittens, but especially when I have made my own mitts too.. I look forward to making this easy pattern to put in my Grands’ stocking this Christmas.
