I’ve seen these cupcake hats everywhere online, so I had to make one! After some trial and error, I made this cute cupcake hat! My daughter loved wearing it. It’s such a fun idea for a hat.
Crochet Hat sizes for HDC pattern:

Newborn baby head circumference: 13″ – 14″, Hat height = 5.5 to 6″= F hook, Baby – 3 to 6 months, Head Cir, 14″ – 17 “, Hat height= 6.5 – 7″= G hook, baby 6-12 months, 16″-19″ head cir., hat length=6.5-7″=H hook, toddler-preschooler (12 months-3 yrs), 18″-20″ head cir., hat length=7″ =I hook, child 3-10 yrs, head cir., 19″-20 1/2 “”, hat length= 7.5″=J hook, teens, head cir., 20 1/2″-22″, hat length, 7.5-8″= K hook

Supplies: Pink, Brown, dark pink, and red yarn

Hook, G Hook, Yarn needle

Abbreviations: dc=double crochet sc=single crochet sl st=slip stitch ch=chain, hdc=half double crochet, hdc2tog=half double crochet together sc2tog=single crochet 2 together fphdc (front post half double crochet), bphdc (back post half double crochet) (there are nice YouTube videos for these stitches)

Half Double Crochet Hat

hook, Pink, Brown, dark pink, and red yarn

Instructions: J hook

Start: ch 5- slip stitch to form a ring,
rnd 1. ch 2 (count as one hdc), do 9 hdc in the ring, sl st. (10 hdc)

rnd 2. ch 2, do 2hdc in each stitch around, continue around, without a slip stitch (start to use a marker) (20 hdc) Now for the rest of the top of the hat, work each stitch in the back loops only.

rnd 3. *do hdc in the next stitch in back loop, 2hdc in the next stitch, *repeat around, continue around, no slip stitch or chain, (I would use a marker so you can keep track of your increased rounds) (30 hdc)
rnd 4. *do hdc in the next 2 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch, *repeat around, continue around. (40 hdc)
rnd 5. *do hdc in the next 3 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch, *repeat around, continue around. (50 hdc)
rnd 6. *do hdc in the next 4 stitches, 2 hdc in the next stitch, *repeat around, continue around. (60 hdc)
rnds 7-10. *do hdc in each stitch around in the back loops,*repeat until you hat measures  about 4 inches long,
rnd 11. Scalloped edge of the cupcake hat: sl. stitch to start in both loops not the back loop anymore, *work 5 dc in next stitch, slip stitch in the next two stitches, *repeat. slip stitch to end. fasten off.
Bottom of the Hat: J hook, Light brown yarn, slip stitch back into round 10, single crochet around once in each stitch around. sl st.
rnds 12-23. ch 1. *fphdc (front post half double crochet) in the next stitch(post), bphdc (back post half double crochet) (youtube videos on how to this stitch) in the next chain, *repeat around. sl st. Repeat until your hat reaches 7 inches or to your desired length.

On top of the pink portion of the hat, you can add sprinkles. Use a yarn needle with pink yarn and sew on 1/2 inch pink yarn dash lines all around to look like sprinkles.

Cherry Red yarn, G hook
ch 2.
1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st to first sc. -6sc
2nd rnd: Ch 1. 2 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. -12 sc.
3rd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Stuff Cherry lightly. -12 sc
4th rnd: Ch 1. (Sc2tog) 6 times. or until the ball closes. Join with sl st to first sc. fasten off, Attach the Cherry on top of the hat.
