I made this Cute Bear Cowl for my children!

Supplies:

L hook (8.00 mm) and J (6.00mm) hook
Impeccable Glitter Cream yarn or some type of thick yarn (you can double thread your yarn optional)
Yarn needle
Button (optional)
I made this Cowl for 3 sizes since I could measure them on my children. If you want a difference size, I can’t guarantee the right measurements without that person to measure, sorry.
Abbreviations:
ch=chain
sl st=slip stitch
sc=single crochet
dc=double crochet
The sizes will be in the brackets for each size. I made them for these sizes, My toddler is 18 months and my daughter is 6 1/2 years old.
(Newborn, Toddler Size, Child size) My Toddler’s head measures around 18 inches around, and my 6 year old measures around 21 inches around.
Start : L hook
Row 1: Chain (15 for Newborn, 25 for Toddler, 30 for Child), sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, and each stitch across, DO NOT TURN, Now work down the opposite side of the chain and sc in each stitch of the chain. – (27 sc,  47 sc, 57 sc )
Row 2: *Ch 1, and Turn, sc in each stitch around, do not slip stitch to join, Repeat *Until it measures (13 inches for a toddler or 26 rows, 20 inches for a toddler or 40 row, or 23 inches or 46 rows for a child.) (27 sc,  47 sc, 57 sc )
Now Don’t turn and sc around the edge of the front of the hat once.
Row 3. Slip stitch to join the 2 side together (this is by the chin of the child, the cowl neck part) *chain 1 and sc around, sl st to join, Repeat * this for 7 rows. Fasten off and Weave in the ends.
At the beginning middle of Row 3, I sewed a button. (optional)

Ears, Make 2, J hook

Rnd 1: Ch 2, work 5 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook. slip stitch -5 sc

Rnd 2: Work 2 dc  in each sc around, sl st. -10 dc

Rnd 3: Work  2 dc in each dc around,  sl st. -20 dc

Rnd 4: Work sc in each dc around. sl st -20 sc

Fasten off. Now place the Ears on top of the Hooded hat about 2.5 inches apart.

    Hi from Ann. I loved the patterns here. Our first great grandbaby is due in October & I can’t wait to crochet some things for baby. (Babies Mom & Dad chose not to know the babies gender, until baby is born, so we’re all waiting.)
    Smiles,
    Ann

    Hi Amy, I’m new at crocheting and got stuck at the first step already.
    “Row 1: Chain (15 for Newborn, 25 for Toddler, 30 for Child), sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, and each stitch across, DO NOT TURN, Now work down the opposite side of the chain and sc in each stitch of the chain. – (27 sc, 47 sc, 57 sc )

    what does work down the opposite side mean?
    and how did 25 stitches turned into 47 sc?

    I’m a beginner so thanks in advance for helping me out.

    it means keep working your sc onto the other side around, rather then turning your work. You could probably find on how to do this on youtube. hope that helped.

    The cowl add on part is not making sense sl
    st to join 2sides together… that will close the opening so how far do you go to close it then ch 1 sc around 7 times. How does this create the opening to pull over the head?

  5. amray2007 says:

    This is after you make the long sides, you will slip stitch at the ends to connect, when you do this, it will create the opening for the face and that slip stitch will be by the chin. hope this makes sense, look at the picture.

    I am fairly new at crochet, the pattern just states “Ears – make two”. Can you give any more pattern instructions? I have no idea how to make ears!

  7. amray2007 says:

    Make 2, J hook Its listed in the pattern how to make the ears, but here it is.

  9. Lorraine Lawson says:

    Hi, I love these. I can’t crochet or knit! Is there any way I could buy one for 3 year old?

  10. EmmaRin says:

    For Row 2 at the start, do I turn the work and continue around, like I did for Row 1, or do I go back and forth by doing Ch1 and Turn?

  11. amray2007 says:

    yes go back and forth, yes continue around like row 1, its all rows, not rounds. hope that helps.

  12. EmmaRin says:

    For the part where you join the two sides, do you crochet around the entire piece? Or just back and forth along the bottom part below where the chin will be?

  13. shengie says:

    The toddler size seems kind of small for my 9month.. I’m on the hoodie part.. is it going to be longer once the cowl is added?
