Crochet Inspired Cabbage Patch Hat with Video (All Sizes)

I made this hat for my toddler! She won’t let me do her hair, so this was an easier way to give her braids.

If you tell others about my work, please only link back to my blog, but don’t copy my patterns to your site. Also you can sell anything you make from my patterns, but don’t sell the free pattern. Thank you!

How to Crochet a single loop stitch for Cabbage Patch Hat Video

Hair Braids (Make two): Cut 25 pieces of 20 inch long strands of yarn. Then fold in half and tie with a piece of yarn in the center. You can braid it or tie in 2 places about 1 inch apart. I braided it, as seen in the picture above. Fold the hat in half and sew on the braids on each side about 2 inches from the center of the hat.

that hook size is for a toddler, just follow the pattern, but change the hook size for the size you want, there is a list of hook sizes for each size listed.

Did you watch the hat video? It has round 5 on the video. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in the 2 next two dc, 2dc in the next dc, *dc in the next 3 dc, 2dc in the next dc. Repeat from * around, join with sl st. -55 dc. I don’t know how else to explain it besides the post and video. Is there a part that is confusing you?

Great pattern! Your videos are very helpful and easy to understand. I just have one question. In the list of materials needed you have two buttons. I can’t find where these are needed.

  6. Sherry G says:

Hi, do I leave 1.5 to 2 inches off the hat before putting the loops on and then crochet the loop stitches to the hat length in your chart…or crochet to the length in your chart and add another 1.5 to 2 inches for the loops? Love the videos and instructions! I’m just afraid to pull the trigger on the loops without checking. Thanks!

  7. amray2007 says:

you will stop when the hat gets to 5.5 inches which will leave 1.5 to 2 inches and then you can add the loops

Please help, I’m not exactly sure how to attach the braids. Your tutorials are all amazing and so easy to follow, but i really need clarification on how to attach the braids.

Basically I just took a yarn needle and sew the top of the braid to the side of each side of that hat. You can use a whip stitch to sew it on.

Just came across your site. You are WONDERFUL! Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so very much!

Thank you so much for the pattern! It’s a very cute little hat! I’ve made one for my daughter who is 14 months, and she is adorable in it :) A friend has asked me to make one for a 10 month old. I was wondering would it be best to use the G hook for size 12+ months to 3 years for the 10 month old, or would that make it too big? I want it to fit her enough now, but also so that she will be able to wear it when the cooler season returns.
